Cervical polyps (or cervical polyps) are benign tumour formations that develop in the lining of the cervix. They are small growths, mostly pedunculated. In most cases, their occurrence results from chronic inflammatory states and hormonal stimuli, such as the hyperoestrogenism typical of the pre-menopausal period.

BARTOLINI GLAND TREATMENTS


Bartholin's cysts are swellings that can develop in the area of the glands of the same name on either side of the vaginal opening. Usually, cysts are asymptomatic unless they enlarge or become infected. In this case, they can develop into an abscess causing inflammation, pain, and sometimes fever. In this case, laser surgery guided by colposcopy is useful.


The first approach is drainage, which is performed under local anaesthesia and involves a small incision in the cyst to allow infected fluid to drain out. Then, vaporization of the glandular pseudocyst is performed, which is left open with a thin iodoform gauze inserted inside to allow complete drainage. This phase has the potential to prevent the appearance of further cysts in the future. The pseudocapsule is kept open and allowed to heal by secondary intention.


CERVICAL DILATION


It involves dilating the cervical canal under local anaesthesia using specific dilators to promote patency of the uterine cervix. The same result is achieved through laser reshaping of the external uterine orifice.


This examination is recommended in cases of infertility, painful menstruation, and to prevent retrograde menstruation which can promote the onset of endometriosis.
